Preschool STARS–Cake!

As always, we started with bubbles and our usual hellos–Hands are clapping/Hey Hey how are you? and Willoughby Wallaby Woo.

The letter of the day was C for cake. My board got erased during playtime, but it included cake, Claire, chocolate, car, and candles.

Book 1: Whopper Cake, by Karma Wilson and Will Hillenbrand. We talked about how “whopper” means “big” and laughed at the huge quantities of ingredients grandpa put in the cake.

Action Rhyme: “A Birthday” from Storytime Katie.

Book 2: A Birthday for Cow, by Jan Thomas. This one cracks me up! I did find that it required a little bit of explanation about what a turnip is, though.

Craft: sponge cakes. I got this idea here. I cut up some large yellow sponges from the Dollar Tree and mixed up some “frosting” using glue and shaving cream. We had a very serious talk ahead of time how this was just pretend and NOT REAL CAKE (lol). We added real sprinkles and pipe cleaner “candles.” We put them on a table to dry and they will pick them up at this week’s storytime.
