Preschool STARS–Hearts and Hugs

We had a great group for storytime today! We started off with bubbles, then went into our usual Hands are Clapping/Hey Hey How are You, followed by an epic version of Willoughby Wallaby Woo. Then we looked inside our House of Sounds.

Today’s letter of the day was H.

Book 1: What I Love about You, by Susan Farrington. This book is just so sweet. Plus, the figures seemed to go really well with the “monster hug” craft that we did this week.

Flannelboard: Colored hearts. Adapted from Preschool Express by Jean Warren.

Book 2: I Need a Valentine! by Harriet Ziefert and Chris Demarest. Fun lift the flap book that talks about giving and receiving on Valentine’s Day.

Craft: Monster hugs. I found a monster coloring page online that I liked, cut off the arms and copied it onto cardstock. The kids colored and cut them out. Then they measured their arm span with streamers and traced their hands onto construction paper and glued them onto the monster. I also provided some heart stickers that they could use to decorate their monster. These turned out so cute!

    1. After we sing our welcome songs, we knock on the door of the house of sounds. I take out the object and ask the kids what letter it starts with. Then I take out the upper and lowercase letters and put them on our board and we make a list of other words that start with that letter.
